2023 writing – Levi @ Pt England School

Today I finished A story retell, the story was “How Tonga Got it’s name” it was quite hard by retelling the story even though I had the book to help me with my task but it got easy at the end.

Planning:

Characters – who are the characters?	Tonga,Moui
Setting – where is the story set?	Samoa
Beginning – how does it start?	Moui sailed across the ocean to find new islands.
Middle – what is happening?	Moui went to Samoa and met an elderly man called Tonga, Tonga offered Moui some fancy fishing hook Moui chose none of them.
End – how does it end?	He chose an old one and said “how can I repay you” Tonga said “if you find an island name it after me” so Moui went to the middle of the ocean and pulled up an island and named it Tonga.

Make sure you use descriptive language to make the story more interesting. Pull the readers in to read YOUR writing, make it fun! You are going to need as much detail as you can as you will be creating a storyboard later on in the week.

Once upon a time there was a Pacification superhero called Moui, before he got his fishing hook he just sailed everywhere. Then he went to Samoa and saw an elderly man called Tonga the expert fisherman, Tonga offered some fancy fishing hooks covered in red feathers but Moui chose none of them, he chose an old one covered in scratches, dead leaves and cobwebs Moui said “how can I repay you” tonga said ” if you find an island name it after me. So Moui sailed out in the vast ocean and through his hook and line in the water, he felt something huge and heavy so he pulled it up and it was an island and he named it Tonga just as he promised.
